Volume 18, Number 2      •     Fall 2022   The American Association Almanac presents the complete records of the American Association playoffs from 1933 to 1962 in Part 1 of Vol. 18, No. 2, Fall 2022. Part 1 covers the records comparing playoff series and games. The project began five years ago to document the playoffs in a comprehensive fashion. The first step provided the basis for this compilation. It involved locating each box score for the games in five-season increments. The details of those games were covered in the Almanac beginning with Vol. 13, No. 2.  As the project wrapped up with the Spring 2022 edition of the Almanac , what remained was a database which included the information from the box scores. That exhaustive database included numerous spreadsheets, but was yet to be fully organized in a way that would allow a full-scale statistical analysis to begin.  In the spring of 2022 that analysis was undertaken. The American Association Almanac - Spring 2022 Volume 18, Number 1 Just over one month ago an update was posted here on the progress of a project that began five years ago as a way to provide comprehensive documentation of the American Association playoffs. Beginning in 1933, the league's playoffs ran each season, with the exception of 1935, through the 1962 season when the league folded.  During the course of the project, data was collected from the box scores of different newspapers found online, predominantly The Sporting News (via paperofrecord.com), the Indianapolis Star , the Louisville Courier-Journal , the Kansas City Star and the Minneapolis Tribune . Once this was established, the leaders of each principal offensive category could be established.  Other databases were developed as well in orde

American Association Playoffs Project Wrap Up

The game accounts are complete. From 1933 to 1962 the American Association playoffs generated 475 contests, including two representing do-overs from protested games. Each of these games is now accounted for and described in detail. Descriptions of the final 85 games, which took place from 1958 to 1962, were wrapped up the other night. The project began a few years ago as content for the print publication, The American Association Almanac. Due to the length of each description the undertaking was published only once per year. The Almanac is published twice each year, leaving a topic on a completely different subject to be explored in order to balance out the offerings. The present undertaking will be published in a few weeks after undergoing editing, layout, production and mailing preparation for subscribers.  Here is an example of a typical description. This game represents the final playoff contest played in American Association history before the league was resurrected several years
